Last weekend, the Formula Winter Series concluded with two races on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Two drivers were in the running to end on top in their respective classes; Griffin in the Drivers- and Maciej in the Rookie Championship.
Going back to the beginning, both Griffin and Maciej started the season with two podium finishes. Griffin managed to secure the victory in the second race and ended the first weekend on top of the rankings.
Griffin continued his great form throughout the second weekend in Valencia, finishing all races on the podium, and, like the first weekend, winning the second one. These results solidified his position in the standings. Maciej grabbed a P4 and P3, being the best rookie on the Ricardo Tormo circuit.
In the third round, held in Aragon, our two championship leaders had their most disappointing weekend of the season. Griffin just missed out on a podium finish in the third race, after two double-digit finishes. Maciej got taken out in the first race and just finished in the points during the second. His third race ended with a P7. Newcomer Keanu took home the victory in the first race and a P2 finish in the second and directly moved up in the rankings.
The final round of the Formula Winter Series was quite an unusual one, with the first qualifying and race being cancelled due to heavy rain. On the second day of the weekend, the sun returned to Barcelona, which meant we were going racing again. The weekend couldn’t have gone better for Griffin, with the Australian taking home not one, but two victories. This could only mean one thing for Griffin; being crowned as champion of the 2024 Formula Winter Series! Maciej capped off his season with a P4 and P12 finish, which was enough to end on top of the rookie standings and third in the overall championship.
Lucas ended the season as third in the rookie championship, with a total of 29 points. Mattia followed him up as the sixth-best rookie, René as seventh, and Peter as the 14th-best. Keanu participated during the last two weekends, replacing Mattia. He managed to get multiple podium finishes and a race win, which gave him a total of 58 points and a seventh position in the overall driver’s championship.
A great season for our MP drivers, and adding two more trophies to our cabinet!
Standings after the final round of Formula Winter Series:
P1 Griffin – 175 points
P3 Maciej – 92 points
P7 Keanu – 58 points
P13 Lucas – 29 points
P17 Mattia – 16 points
P19 René – 14 points
P26 Peter – 1 point
The great performance of our drivers, engineers and mechanics ensures the Constructor’s Championship as well. The MP team tallied a total of 324 points throughout the season, 78 more than the runner-up. We won a total of five races and ended twelve times on the podium.
