Second P2 for Tim in Monte Carlo

Formula 3 — May 28, 2024

A special one for our F3 rookies last weekend. The Monaco GP is a race where a select amount of drivers have the opportunity to drive. This weekend it was time for the MP F3 team, but it didn’t start the way that we would have liked to. The team was met with lots and lots of rain on Thursday, which meant a slippery track during the practice session. Incidents were caused by the heavy weather, fortunately not causing any real harm. No real times were set by our drivers due to the red flags.

Qualifying

The Qualifying Session was divided into two groups because of the large number of drivers in Formula 3, which makes it easier to set a fast lap and avoid traffic. Kacper set the eighth best time on the grid, which meant after merging the groups a P15 for the Sprint and Feature Race. Tim had a great lap and qualified at P10, this puts him in the second row due to the reversed grid for the Sprint Race. Alex unfortunately wasn’t able to set a fast lap due to a lock up and red flag, qualifying at P26.

Sprint Race

The Sprint Race started great after Tim took the second position in the first corner, but after the second turn, there was a crash that involved multiple cars, including Alex. He couldn’t go anywhere and collided with the driver in front of him. Fortunately, none of the drivers were hurt and got out of the car safe and sound. Kacper stopped next to the track due to a puncture and sadly wasn’t able to finish the race. Tim was able to defend his P2 and finished back-to-back Sprint Races on the podium!

Feature Race

The final race of the weekend was in typical Monaco style, without many overtakes, however, there were multiple collides and cars not being able to finish the race. Tim was able to gain a few positions which made his total points scored go up. P8 for the German! Kacper overtook some competitors and finished at P11, with Alex following in his footsteps by overtaking multiple drivers and finishing sixteenth.

A great experience seeing our drivers accelerate on the historic track. We’re looking forward to the next round, where they will be joining the F2 team and F1 Academy teams during the Spanish GP held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Standings after the fourth round of the 2024 F3 season:
P7 Tim – 43 points
P19 Kacper –  6 points
P20 Alex – 6 points

Team standings:
P6 – 55 points
