Second in the championship after Silverstone

Formula 2 — July 8, 2024

The final race of the 2024 F2 triple-header took the team to a rainy Silverstone, playground for the British Grand Prix. After a weekend with highs and lows in Spielberg, scoring a team total of 25 points, we were looking forward to our growth for the second half of the season.

Practice and Qualifying

During Practice, Dennis and Franco tried to find their flow on the UK track. The results reflected this, with a P13 and P20 finish consecutively. Luckily, the tides turned when Qualifying came around the corner. Franco, who felt good having driven the first Practice Session for Williams, set the fourth best time and was starting Sunday on the second row. In front of him was Dennis, who was a bit faster and outscored his teammate for P3.

Sprint Race

On Saturday, the team was hit with typical British weather, having rain fall on us continuously.  This meant safety car, upon safety car, upon safety car, including a Red Flag during the start of the race. Franco managed to overtake multiple drivers and was in fifth when crossing the finish line. Dennis followed in his footsteps and scored important points by finishing seventh in the Sprint Race.

Feature Race

After a tough start of the race on Sunday morning, with Dennis starting on softs and Franco on hards, our MP drivers improved their race pace. Dennis came in for his mandatory pitstop on lap 11 but lost time on the out lap which resulted in a P9 finish. Franco on the other hand stayed out until lap 23, just six laps until the checkered flag. This meant a final stint to get the best possible result on soft tyres. He did manage to get P4 in the end, gathering a total of 17 points throughout the weekend.

That’s a wrap for three weeks of continuous racing across Europe. 64 points, 14,866 kilometres of track, and 3193 of travelling brings us to the end of the triple-header. Lots has been learned in the first half of the season, with more to come in two weeks, where the team will be competing in Budapest.

Standings after the 8th round of racing
P5 Franco – 92 points
P7 Dennis – 66 points

Team standings
P2 – 158 points
