Sami Meguetounif joins MP Motorsport for first full Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine season

FRECA — March 21, 2022

Young Frenchman Sami Meguetounif has joined MP Motorsport for his first full season in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA). The 17-year-old from Marseille will be part of a three-car team fielded by the Dutch outfit.

Meguetounif’s full-season debut comes after four promising FRECA outings towards the end of the 2021 season. In the post-season months, the French rookie extensively tested with MP at Paul Ricard and Barcelona, setting excellent times, before signing for the 2022 season.

“I’m very pleased to be joining MP for my first full FRECA season”, said Meguetounif. “The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine is an extremely competitive environment, and teaming up with a proven race-winning team will help me make quick progress as I move forward in the season. Testing with the team has been a very satisfying experience – we’ve been quick from the off. This has given me the confidence that I’ve made the right decision to go with MP.”

“It’s wonderful that Sami will be part of our FRECA squad”, said MP Motorsport’s team principal Sander Dorsman. “Sami is an exciting talent who has already shown flashes of raw speed in his late-season appearances in the series last year, and we hope to build on that going into the new season. I’m betting on Sami to be among the surprises of 2022.”

Meguetounif entered the international OK karting scene as the French 2018 OK Junior champion, showing well in the 2019 WSK Euro Series and Super Master Series as well as the 2019 CIK-FIA World Championship. Three late-season races in the 2019 French F4 Championship were followed by a full season in 2020, gaining him a win and eight podiums on his way to fourth in the final standings. In 2021, Meguetounif split his efforts between German and Italian F4 before stepping up to FRECA.
