The second round of the FRECA 2024 season took us to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. With only two drivers on the grid, due to Nikita having an overlap with Formula 3, we took on the Practice session. Valerio came out on top after the session by setting the eighth-best time of everyone on the grid, being the third-best rookie. Nikhil ended practice at the 21st position.
Qualifying
During the first Qualifying Session, which was abruptly ended by a safety car, Nikhil completed the top ten for the first race’s grid. Valerio qualified at P18. The second session didn’t go as expected. Both drivers weren’t able to get the pace right. Valerio was able to improve compared to a day earlier, qualifying one position higher. Nikhil ended the session at P13, which resulted in a P25 after merging the two groups.
Race 1
The first race was a good one for our MP drivers in terms of overtaking. Valerio managed to make up a total of four places compared to his starting position and finished at P14. Nikhil did overtake two competitors and crossed the line as the number eighth of the grid, but was hit with a post-race penalty and got set back to P10 due to leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
Race 2
To finish off the weekend in Spa-Francorchamps, our drivers took on the second race. Valerio made some great moves to improve his position by quite a bit. After good defending and finding gaps throughout the race, he managed to secure the thirteenth position. Sadly, he was hit with a post-race penalty as well as Nikhil the day before, also for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. This made him drop to P15. Nikhil enhanced his position on the grid to nineteenth, overtaking a total of six competitors.
A weekend with lots to take away from. We are already looking forward to the next race which will be a lot closer to the home ground of MP than usual, being at Zandvoort! The weekend will start on the 7th of June.
