Passing the halfway mark of the 2024 Formula 3 season, the MP team travelled to Spielberg, Austria for the sixth round. Going for the second race of the current triple-header, we were in a flow trying to improve after having learned a lot in Barcelona. Eager to see what this round was bringing to the table, where the Red Bull Ring is always an exciting track to race.
Practice and Qualifying
Getting to know the track in Spielberg is always an important task during Practice. All three drivers have some experience due to their past in Formula 4. Alex got P13, Tim P16, and Kacper P28 during the session. Times improved during the Qualifying Session later that day, with Kacper setting the 25th best time, Alex finishing in the top ten getting P9, and Tim getting an amazing P3 result after 30 minutes.
Sprint Race
Lap 1 of the Sprint ended with Kacper sadly being out of the race due to damage. Alex fought off the opposition hard and secured a well-deserved P4 for the first race of the weekend. Tim managed to overtake two drivers, starting from the tenth place on the grid. This meant a P8 for the German and one point to add to his tally.
Feature Race
After a slow start by Tim, he sadly dropped down to the eighth position after his good qualifying position. Luck wasn’t on his side, and continued in the fourteenth lap, where he received a 10-second penalty due to causing a collision. In the end, this resulted in a P15. Alex also received a 10-second penalty due to causing a collision, dropping him to the tenth position on the grid. Kacper however, had a great race, overtaking a total of nine positions and finishing the race in P16.
Concluding the triple-header next week at the Silverstone racetrack, there is still all to play for. Looking forward to adapting the knowledge of the past weekend and scoring some important points this week for what is already the seventh round of the season.
