Australian youngster Griffin Peebles has signed to drive for MP Motorsport in the 2024 Spanish Formula Championship. The Shanghai-born driver moves over to the Dutch outfit for his sophomore season in the series.
Peebles joins MP after a busy season that saw him compete in no less than four series, dovetailing his main programme in the Spanish F4 Championship with selected outings in the Italian and British F4 series as well as the fledgling Euro 4 championship. A points scorer in his first year in single-seaters, , including a fourth place in round eight of the British F4 series, Peebles now aims to build on his knowledge of the circuits on the Spanish F4 calendar to achieve bigger results in 2024.
The 15-year-old Australian is the third driver to be confirmed for MP Motorsport’s F4 line-up for next year, following the recent announcements of Dutchman René Lammers and Maciej Gładysz from Poland.
“It’s wonderful that I am able to join MP Motorsport for my next season in Spanish F4”, said Peebles. “They are a multiple teams champion in the series, with a wealth of experience with the best young drivers that have come up through the ranks via the Spanish F4 championship. Knowing my future ahead of the winter months will help me to be best prepared for the new season – I’m very much looking forward to the challenge!”
“Griff will form an excellent addition to our Spanish F4 squad for 2024”, said MP Motorsport’s team principal Sander Dorsman. “We recognised his talent when he raced against us in the 2023 season, and now he will strenghten our own line-up in the championship. I am certain he will do well and can’t wait to get started with him. With Griffin, René and Maciej in the team, we can only have high hopes going into the new season.”
Peebles made the jump to single-seaters after a karting career that saw him come over to Europe in 2019, having started out in Asia, where the runner-up in the 2017 Chinese national championship also became the Japanese Rotax Mini champion in 2019. Initially competing at Mini level in the various WSK series, claiming a string of strong results in the WSK Super Master Series, the WSK Euro Series, the Trofeo d’Autunno and the South Garda Winter Cup, he moved up to Junior level into 2021, finishing his karting days on a high with a second place in the Italian federation’s 2022 national championship plus seventh in the 2022 WSK Open Cup. Meanwhile, Peebles took eighth in the 2019 Rotax Max MicroMAX Grand Finals and ninth and seventh in the 2019 and 2020 ROK Mini Superfinals.
