For what is already the sixth round of racing for our FRECA team, we travelled to Circuit de Paul Ricard. After the round in Mugello, we prepared for the final race ahead of the summer break. Isaac replaced Nikita during the race weekend, due to the overlap with the Hungarian GP.
Qualifying
For the weekend’s first Qualifying Session, our drivers struggled to find the right pace. This resulted in the best time set by Valerio coming into P18, followed by Nikhil in P22. Isaac finished the MP grid for race 1 at P31. Nikhil turned things around during the second Qualifying Session, setting the tenth-best time of the grid! Valerio came into P26 and Isaac again set the 31st time and started both races in the same position.
Race 1
During the weekend’s first race, all our drivers gained at least four positions compared to where they started. Four positions were secured by Valerio, a total of six by Nikhil, and another five by Isaac, which meant a total of fifteen positions for the MP team. Valerio finished P14, Nikhil P16, and Isaac P26, which equals his best result in the FRECA championship this season.
Race 2
The second and final race of the weekend was an eventful one. Lots of rain meant lots of spinning and oversteering, resulting in multiple DNFs. All MP drivers managed to control their cars and stay on track. Valerio had one of his best races as of yet, gaining a total of thirteen positions and turning his unfavourable P26 into a P13 finish. Nikhil was penalized due to a racing incident which made him end just in front of Valerio at P11. Isaac gained three places on the grid and ended in the twenty-eighth position.
We still have time to recover and adapt for the final four race weekends of the season. The first round will take us back to Italy, where we are racing on the famous Imola circuit. Right now the focus is to improve enough to finish the season on a high!
