Keanu shines in Portimao

Formula 4 — June 12, 2024

During the second weekend of the season, the Spanish F4 MP team travelled to beautiful Portimao in Algarve, Portugal. After a successful first weekend, the drivers were eager to learn from the first few races and implement their improvements.

Qualifying

Our six drivers went out for the first qualifying session of the weekend. Keanu managed to show his dominance by confidently taking the pole position. Mattia continued to improve after the first weekend and set the third fastest time, followed by René at P4. Griffin finished inside the top ten at P8, Lucas at P12, and Maciej at P16. Keanu went back to back in the second session, taking his second pole position both over the weekend and during the season. Again, Mattia came after him, this time at P6, followed by Griffin at P7. Finishing the MP grid, came Lucas at P10, René at P12 and Maciej at P15.

Race 1

Getting pole position is great of course, but it doesn’t guarantee you secure the win. After some great battling, Keanu turned his first pole position into his first win of the season! Mattia once again followed up Keanu and took second place on the podium. René got P5, and Lucas had a great race and finished just behind René at P6. Griffin finished at ninth and Maciej completed the MP grid finishing P12.

Race 2

During the second race of the weekend, we didn’t get to see a lot of racing. The race can be characterized by its many safety cars, thankfully not caused by any serious incidents. Keanu unfortunately lost the lead and finished in second place. Griffin grabbed his first podium of the weekend at P3, followed by Mattia in fourth. Lucas drove a mature race and finished at P6, and Maciej completed the top ten by finishing tenth. René sadly stalled at the start and had to eventually retire the car after an incident.

Race 3

Keanu finished his weekend with a brilliant drive to secure his second victory of the season and weekend! Four drivers finished consecutively to each other; Lucas at P6, Maciej at P7, Griffin at P8, and Mattia at P9. René finished the MP line-up with a fifteenth position.

Three pole positions, four podiums, and two wins make up a great weekend overall. We’ll have to wait a bit for the next round, we’re travelling to Paul-Ricard in France on the 5th of July and are looking forward to keep improving!

P11 René  – 20 points
