Mexican racing driver José Antonio ‘Joss’ Garfias Martínez Lavín has hooked up with MP Motorsport for brand-new Eurocup-3 series
Mexican racing driver José Antonio ‘Joss’ Garfias Martínez Lavín has hooked up with MP Motorsport for a full-season assault on the brand-new Eurocup-3 series. The 17-year-old from San Luis Potosí joins young Danish driver Sebastian Øgaard in MP’s line-up for the maiden season of the category.
Having been sidelined all through 2022, Garfias aims to reboot his single-seater career with a fresh attack on the new stepping stone in between Formula 4, the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) and FIA Formula 3. In 2021, the Mexican youngster raced in Britain’s GB3 Championship before deciding on a mid-season switch to FRECA. He is now ready to put that experience to good use in Eurocup-3.
“I’m really pleased to be joining MP Motorsport in Eurocup-3”, said Garfias. “They are one of the top teams in European single-seater racing, and I’m grateful for the opportunity they have handed me. Along with Sebastian, I hope to produce the results to match their reputation of talent accelerators. The championship will visit the best circuits in Europe – I can’t wait for the opening round at Spa to get going!”
“It’s great news to have Joss in one of our Eurocup-3 cars”, said Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport’s team principal. “We raced against him in FRECA in 2021 and spotted his potential, so now it’s time to unlock his talent and promote his single-seater career. With Joss and Sebastian, we already have a strong pairing in our cars and we look forward to go racing with them. We expect to complete our Eurocup-3 season line-up soon.”
Before his arrival in Europe, Garfias was a strong contender in both Fórmula México and the NACAM Formula 4 Championship, finishing third in the 2019 Fórmula México series before claiming fourth in the final 2019-20 NACAM F4 standings.
