Cluttered race weekend in Silverstone for F3

Formula 3 — July 8, 2024

Going from the Alps to the damp sights of the Silverstone race track, the F3 MP team prepared for the final round of the triple-header this season. The Red Bull Ring provided us with some exciting moments, concluding with 11 points to add to our total in the championship. We were eager to continue our great flow.

Practice and Qualifying

The Practice Session on Friday morning hit us with a very moist track, which led to only a few laps being driven by our drivers. P18 for Tim, P25 for Alex, and P28 for Kacper. Again, during Qualifying, the UK weather did not leave anybody alone and had rain falling on us throughout the session. Most other cars left the pits when the track dried up in the end, put the team chose to stay in. In the end, Alex finished at the thirteenth position, Kacper at P20, and Tim behind him in the 21st.

Sprint Race

Due to heavy rain on Saturday morning, the race was postponed and rescheduled to 6 PM later that day. After a good opening lap, Alex was sitting in P8. Unfortunately, he got caught in the middle of a collision which was out of his control, which meant a new front wing and a drop back to P22. Tim suffered the same fate, as he as well had to come back into to pits to receive a new front wing and tyres. Kacper struggled with engine problems and had to retire the car, ending the Sprint Race without any points for our tally.

Feature Race

The right word for the race on Sunday has to be chaotic. Before we reached the quarter mark of the race, multiple drivers had pitted from wets to slicks, and back to wets again, including Alex and Tim. A lot of safety cars were deployed due to incidents and collisions, thankfully not harming any of the drivers. Alex was involved in one of the crashes, not being able to finish the race. Tim did manage to overtake multiple competitors on his wets and was on a great strategy, but dropped back after the track dried up and wasn’t able to pit for slicks, which led to him finishing fourteenth.. Kacper finished seventeenth.

A tangled race weekend to end off the F3 triple-header. We are keeping our heads up high and are already preparing for the next stop on the calendar, which will be Budapest in two weeks!

Standings after the triple-header:
P10 Tim – 47 points
P14 Alex – 29 points
P25 Kacper – 6 points

Team standings
P6 – 82 points
