Abkhazava moves over to MP Motorsport for sophomore year in Eurocup-3

Eurocup 3 — December 23, 2024

Alexander Abkhazava has moved to MP Motorsport to participate for a second year in the ever-growing Eurocup-3 series. The 18-year-old Kazakh aims to add to the remarkable results he achieved in his debut season in this category.

Abkhazava lines up alongside the previously announced Maciej Gładysz and Valerio Rinicella in the team that ran four out of the five best drivers in the 2024 season, with further announcements coming up. The young Kazakh will switch to MP Motorsport on the back of a promising debut season that saw him claim second place in his very first race at Spa before he went on to take his first victory at Portimão. Travelling to Macau for the end-of-season FIA FR World Cup, Abkhazava raced to an excellent P9 in the streets of the bustling city.

“I’m extremely excited to team up with MP Motorsport for my second season in Eurocup-3”, said Abkhazava. “They have been the dominant force in the series this year and absolutely know how to prepare a winning car. I will now be part of the team that I have been fighting all year, and with the experience that I have gained all through 2024, my goal for 2025 is to be a consistent frontrunner and vie for the championship. Let’s get the season started!”

“It’s a great pleasure to welcome Alexander to our Eurocup-3 squad for 2025”, said Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport’s team principal. “All season long, he has been a worthy opponent to our drivers. So we didn’t hesitate to sign him up when the opportunity arose. It’s our aim to further hone his skills and capitalise on his knowledge of these cars to continue to fight up front. With Maciej, Valerio and now Alexander, our Eurocup-3 line-up is gaining strength with every new signing, and I’m confident of repeating our strong 2024 form in the 2025 season.”

2025 will only be Abkhazava’s third season in single-seaters, as the young Kazakh made his motorsport debut in the 2023 UAE F4 Championship and the Spanish F4 Championship before conquering the Formula Regional Middle East Championship and the Eurocup-3 in 2024. Prior to his promotion to single-seaters, Abkhazava had enjoyed a successful run in a string of international Rotax Max karting championships.
