For the final round of the Eurocup-3 2024 season, we traveled to the iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. With the Drivers’ Championship on the line between our own Javier Sagrera, Campos Racing’s Christian Ho, and our teammate Bruno Del Pino, the team was eager to finish the season on a high note, having secured the Teams’ Championship during the last round in Jerez and looking to secure the Drivers’ Championship.
Qualifying
In Saturday’s Qualifying 1 session, we had a strong showing. Emmo Fittipaldi Jr took pole position with an impressive lead of 3 tenths of a second. Owen Tangavelou secured P4, Bruno Del Pino qualified in P6, Javier Sagrera in P7, and Georgy Zhuravskiy completed the MP grid in P9.
Sunday’s Qualifying 2 brought some changes. Initially, Owen placed P2, but after receiving a penalty for setting his fastest lap under yellow flags, the grid was reshuffled. This adjustment placed Emmo in P2, Javier moved up to P5, Owen started from P7, Bruno from P12, and Georgy from P14.
Race 1
In Race 1, Emmo had a fantastic launch, maintaining his lead into the first corner, while Bruno made up two positions at the start, moving into P4. The top ten remained tightly packed, with strategic tire management playing a crucial role due to the nature of the Circuit de Catalunya. Mid-race, a track limits penalty for a competitor promoted Bruno to a podium position. Emmo defended brilliantly against late challenges to clinch his first race win of the season, bringing the Brazilian flag to the top step of the podium for the first time since the championship’s inception.
Race 2
The final race of the season was filled with excitement. Javier made an aggressive move at the start, attempting to overtake two drivers into turn one. He went through the escape route, gained two positions off-track, but, believing he had only gained one, he gave back one position, resulting in a 5-second time penalty at the end of the race. Emmo kept up his strong pace, securing another podium finish in P2. Bruno gained a position to finish P11, while Georgy finished in P13, adding valuable points to the team’s tally, especially important considering that the guest entries didn’t score points. Unfortunately, Owen was disqualified after the race due to a breach of Parc Fermé regulations.
Championship Victory
With these results, we proudly secured both the Drivers’ Championship with Javier Sagrera and the Teams’ Championship. This marks our first championship victory in the Eurocup-3 series, matching the record for the number of championships since the series’ inception. We’re incredibly proud of our team’s performance and are already looking forward to winter testing and preparations for next season.
