For the fifth round of the 2024 Formula 3 season the team travelled along with F2 to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. After having gathered a total of 13 points on the historic track of Monaco, we were looking forward to keep improving and increasing our point total. The circuit in the eastern part of Spain is considered to be a daring one so we were up for a challenge.
Practice and qualifying
Shining bright under the burning sun was Alex. Of course driving with number 9, setting the 9th fastest time in Practice, and repeating the same during qualifying, getting P9. Which is his best result yet in the grid-deciding session. Tim set the 12th best time during Practice but wasn’t able to convert it in Qualifying: P16 for the German. Kacper got P29 in Practice and P26 in Qualifying.
Sprint Race
Due to the reversed grid for the Sprint, Alex started from P4, looking to get his first podium in F3. In lap three, the two leaders collided which meant our Irishman gained two positions getting into P2. Alex put pressure on his competitor in front of him but in the end, wasn’t able to overtake him. This did mean that he secured P2 and his best result in Formula 3! Tim drove a solid race gaining two positions ending in P10. Kacper also overtook several opponents finishing 23rd.
Feature Race
After going wide on the second lap, Alex maturely drove the rest of the Feature Race unharmed, gaining two positions due to contact in front of him, a great result ending P7. Tim came from P16, overtaking multiple drivers and finishing the race in 12th. Kacper had a difficult race and finished in 28th.
A weekend with ups and downs, but a feeling of glory for Alex. Lots to take away and implement into the next round which will start sooner than later; on the 28th of June. Again, the F3 team will accompany our F2 team to Spielberg, Austria.
