Last weekend kicked off the F1 academy season for our three MP drivers. The 2024 season starts in Jeddah, home of the Corniche circuit. It is the first time the F1 academy has raced on the circuit.
During the qualifying sessions, it was clear that there was some progress to be made for the upcoming races. During the first session, Hamda (Red Bull Racing) managed to set the 13th fastest lap on the grid, with Amna (Visa Cash App Racing Bulls) and Emely (Red Bull) following her up at the 15th and 16th positions. The second qualifying session showed improvements. Hamda gained one position compared to the previous session, getting a P12. Amna managed to improve to the 14th position and Emely ended the session the same as the last one, at P16.
Our drivers got used to the track which was shown during the first race. Amna had to brake quickly because Juffali spun right in front of her car. This led to damage on her front wing and she had to come in for a pitstop. Hamda and Emely managed to overtake multiple drivers in front of them. They managed to finish sequential P9 and P12. Amna got back and followed in the footsteps of Emely to finish the race in the thirteenth position.
In the second race, there was a lot of overtaking from MP’s side. Hamda overtook multiple drivers, ending the race at P7. Due to post race penalties she was promoted to P5. Sister Amna started at P14 and managed to finish the race as the eighth-best driver on the grid. Emely also gained a total of four positions compared to her qualifying result, getting P12.
Overall a good start to the F1 academy season and looking forward to the next round which is being held in Miami, starting on May 3rd.
Standings after the first round of racing:
8 Hamda (Red Bull Racing) – 12 points
12 Amna (Visa Cash App Racing Bulls) – 4 points
