New F2 car unveiled

While everyone is waiting for the first F1 design to appear that includes a halo the FIA F2 Championship has already introduced a car with the new safety element. FIA F2 introduced its new Dallara F2-2018 at Monza today. The new design also includes a new engine, a Mécachrome 3.4-litre turbo pounding out 620hp.

The new car is intended for the 2018, 2019 and 2020 season. The brief to Dallara was that the car’s design philosophy should mirror the latest updates in F1 design. The halo is the most prominent example of that. Apart from the new engine the car will also have an updated ECU. The operational costs for the teams are expected to be at similar levels to this year.

In July, the new Dallara was shaken down successfully at Magny-Cours. The car will receive two more performance tests in December. The first cars will be delivered to the teams in January 2018.
